RELATIONSHIP & MARRIAGE COUNSELLING

What is couples therapy?

Couples counselling, is a type of psychotherapy that aims to help couples improve their relationship and resolve conflicts. It involves a trained therapist who works with the couple to explore and understand the dynamics of their relationship, identify areas of concern, and develop strategies to address and overcome challenges.

Gottman Method

Arm Open Counselling utilizies the Gottman method and EFT during sessions, helping couples strengthen their relationships in the areas of friendship, conflict management, and the creation of shared meaning. Couples learn to replace negative conflict patterns with positive interactions and to repair past hurts. Interventions designed to increase closeness and intimacy are used to improve friendship, deepen emotional connection, and create changes that enhance the couple's shared goals.

Sex & Intimacy therapy (coming soon)

Sex & intimacy therapy is aimed at helping individuals or couples address and overcome sexual issues. The goal is to help couples find connection again and overcome barriers to the intimacy they desire. Improving sexual function and increasing communication can lead to enhanced intimacy. Our trained sex therapist will provide a safe and confidential space to discuss concerns related to sexual health, desires, and challenges.

Common reasons people seek sex therapy include:

  • Difficulty with arousal, orgasm, or erectile function
  • Low libido or mismatched sexual desires
  • Relationship issues related to sex or intimacy
  • Sexual trauma or abuse
  • Communication difficulties around sexual needs and boundaries

This specialized type of therapy may involve a combination of talk therapy, education, behavioral techniques, and exercises to improve sexual health and relationships. It can be beneficial for individuals or couples of any sexual orientation or gender.

Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT)

Emotionally Focused Therapy is an evidence-based approach to couples counseling that focuses on emotions and attachment patterns. EFT has been widely used to help couples improve their relationships. It is essential for both partners to be willing to engage in the process and explore their emotions openly.

Happily married couples aren't smarter, or richer, than others. But in their day-to-day lives, they have hit upon a dynamic that keeps their negative thoughts and feelings about each other from overwhelming their positive
