Now taking new clients in Dunnville
Samantha also sees children and offers play therapy
Whether you're navigating anxiety, the mental load of parenting, burnout, relationship trauma, or the lasting impact of a difficult childhood, therapy can offer you something rare: a space to pause, feel seen, and begin to heal.
I support men, women, and parents through major life transitions—like postpartum changes, hormonal shifts, relationship stress, and identity loss. I also work with people processing complex trauma, including but not limited to: C-PTSD, Domestic violence
High Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)
Many of my clients come to therapy feeling like they’re “too much” or “not enough.” If that sounds familiar, you're not alone. Together, we’ll gently explore and begin to untangle those beliefs with compassion and curiosity.
My work is grounded in trauma-informed, narrative, and emotion-focused therapies. We’ll look at how your past may be shaping your present—and begin to rewrite the patterns that no longer serve you.
Healing isn’t about fixing yourself. It’s about coming home to who you are.
Ready to Start?
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in survival mode, I want you to know: change is possible. You don’t have to do this alone.

Psychotherapist
janetarmsopencounselling@gmail.com
Janet works with clients aged 14 and older, providing a warm, therapeutic environment tailored to support teens and adults.
As a Registered Psychotherapist and former teacher, Janet knows how deeply our early relationships and life experiences shape the way we see ourselves and the world. She brings together her background in education and her advanced therapy training to help people work through overwhelming thoughts and feelings, heal from trauma and abuse, and build safer, stronger connections with the people in their lives.
Janet works with both individuals and families, helping each person reconnect with their own inner strength so they can feel steady, hopeful, and more like themselves again. Her work is grounded in current research on how the brain responds to stress and trauma.
She draws on approaches that are especially helpful for childhood trauma and PTSD, including EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She is also trained in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP), which helps families understand one another and grow closer.
Above all, Janet believes in hope: that healing from the past is possible, and that everyone deserves the chance to build a meaningful life.
For those who would like it, Janet welcomes faith into the healing process, helping clients draw on their spiritual beliefs as part of their recovery. Her approach is collaborative and compassionate, and she always honors each person’s values and goals.
How Janet Can Help
Janet combines proven, research-based approaches with a warm, caring relationship to create a safe space for real and lasting change:
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing): Helps the brain process painful memories that feel “stuck,” so they become less upsetting over time.
IFS (Internal Family Systems): Helps you get to know the different parts of yourself, like the part that worries or the part that protects, so you can ease inner conflict and let go of coping habits that no longer serve you.
ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy): Helps you make room for difficult thoughts and feelings without getting stuck in them, so you can move toward what matters most to you.
DDP (Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy): Explores how early bonds shape family relationships today, and gives parents practical, caring ways to connect with their children.
Janet offers in-person sessions in Smithville & Beamsville as well as virtual
